Marios Pattichis is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Department of Radiology, at the University of New Mexico (UNM). At UNM, he is the director of the Image and Video Processing and Communications Laboratory (ivPCL). He has published over 60 conference and journal papers, and has also contributed 14 chapters to 10 books. He serves as an associate editor to the international journal Pattern Recognition.
He is the advisor to eleven graduate students, including eight doctoral students pursuing research in digital image and video processing. His research has been supported through grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Air Force Research Laboratory, Hewlett-Packard, Honeywell, Xilinx, Kestrel Corporation, and Orion International Technologies. At UNM, he received the 2004 Teacher of the Year award.
He received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998. He also holds bachelor degrees in Mathematics (High Honors) and Computer Sciences (High Honors and Special Honors) from the University of Texas at Austin. For his undergraduate studies, he was awarded a full scholarship from the Cyprus America Scholarship Program.
